Licensing model

Trial for seven days,then a per-computer key

This page describes the licensing model rather than a price list. Prices are quoted on request, because scope, seat count and support expectations differ enough that a published number would mislead more often than it helped.

The model

One trial, then one key per computer

Simple on purpose, and designed around the fact that protection work happens where the network does not reach.

Download and install ProtectionAI and it runs for 7 days without any key at all. The trial is the full application against the built-in simulator, which is the same test set the licensed product uses today, so a trial is a fair representation of the working software rather than a limited demonstration.

After the trial the application needs a licence key. Keys are issued per computer: you email sales@gridapm.com, you receive a key, and you activate. Activation is RSA-signed and offline — the licence is bound to that machine and validated locally, with no licence server to contact and no periodic check-in that can fail when the laptop is in a basement.

Prices, licence terms, support arrangements and volume structures are quoted on request. Write to sales@gridapm.com with the outline of what you need and you will get a written quotation rather than a configurator.

The path

From download to activated licence

  1. Download and verify

Get the installer from the download page, which serves it as a GitHub Release asset, and check its SHA-256 against the published value before you run it.

  2. Install and run the trial

Install on a Windows 10 or 11 x64 machine with local administrator rights. The application runs for 7 days with no key and no internet connection required.

  3. Evaluate against the simulator

Import your own XRIO or RIO settings, build the plans you would actually run, execute them against the built-in simulator and export a report on your own letterhead. That is the honest test of whether the workflow fits your team.

  4. Request a key

Email sales@gridapm.com with the details listed below. You will receive a per-computer licence key and a written quotation.

  5. Activate offline

Apply the key on the machine it was issued for. Activation is RSA-signed and validated locally; no network connection is involved.

What to send when you request a key

Sending this in the first message avoids a round trip.

Who and where
Your organisation, the team that will use the software, and the country or countries the licences will be used in.
How many computers
Licences are per computer, so the number of machines matters more than the number of people. Say whether they are fixed workstations, field laptops, or both.
The machines themselves
Windows version and architecture, and whether the machines are internet-connected or isolated. Isolated is fully supported and worth stating up front.
Copilot intent
Whether you intend to enable the AI copilot and, if so, whether you already hold an API key with one of the four supported providers — Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI/Grok or Google/Gemini. GridAPM does not resell provider capacity.
Procurement route
Whether you need a quotation, a formal proposal, a purchase-order process, or a supplier questionnaire completed, and any deadline attached to it.

Do your job properly

What a procurement team should ask for

These are reasonable questions and we would rather you asked them than assumed the answers.

  • A written confirmation of exactly which capabilities are implemented, partial and roadmap at the version you are buying — not the roadmap as a whole.
  • Explicit written confirmation of the exact OMICRON functions implemented, the missing physical-CMC HIL evidence, and which other vendor drivers remain unavailable.
  • Explicit written confirmation of the IEC 61850 transport, Npcap licensing and permissions, timestamp provenance, and live NIC/IED qualification status if any 61850 work is in scope.
  • The licence terms: what per-computer means, what happens when a machine is replaced or reimaged, and how a licence is transferred.
  • The support and maintenance arrangement, including how updates are delivered to isolated machines.
  • Whether any roadmap item you are relying on is a commitment or an intention, and in writing either way.
  • The security review pack you need, and confirmation that the application runs and licenses fully offline in your environment.
  • Confirmation that the AI copilot is optional, that it requires your own provider key, and that no GridAPM endpoint is in that path.
  • A trial on a representative machine before commitment, using your own settings files.
  • Clarity on which named contact handles licence issuance and reissuance.

No numbers here

Why this page carries no price

GridAPM does not publish ProtectionAI pricing, discounts or comparative cost claims. A quotation depends on the number of machines, the licence term, the support arrangement and what your procurement process requires, and a headline figure detached from those would be a marketing number rather than an informative one.

Equally, you will not find a claimed time saving, a cost-per-test comparison or a percentage improvement anywhere on these pages. We have no defensible measurement to offer, so we offer none. Run the trial with your own settings files and measure it yourself.

Try it for seven days and check the claims yourself

Install ProtectionAI on a Windows machine, import your own XRIO or RIO settings, run the plans you would really run against the built-in simulator and export a report on your own letterhead. No key is needed for the trial, and no internet connection is needed to run it. When you want a per-computer licence, email sales@gridapm.com.
